When it rains, it pours. And when it pours, an umbrella really isn’t going to help much anyway.

After General Motors recalled 1.37 million vehicles here in the United States and came under fire from the media and government alike, 1.5 million more GM vehicles have been recalled. The automaker will also take on a $300 million charge against its earnings to help fund repairs.

GM Recall

The Buick Enclave is one of several GM models being recalled.

Among the newly recalled vehicles are almost 1.2 million 2008 – 2013 Buick Enclaves and GMC Acadias, 2009 – 2013 Chevy Traverses, and 2008 – 2010 Saturn Outlooks. These GM SUVs are being recalled for air bag problems. If drivers ignore the “service air bag” warning light too long, the air bags will be disabled in full.

In addition, the American automaker is recalling over 300,000 Chevy Express and GMC Savanas for 2009 – 2014 model years that have a gross vehicle weight under 10,000 pounds. While the air bags for these models are fine (for now), General Motors reports that they need to have more protection built into their instrument panels for any passengers who may not be wearing seatbelts. (But shouldn’t they be wearing those anyways? Click it or ticket!)

Finally, the automaker is recalled nearly 65,000 Cadillac XTS sedans from 2013 and 2014. Apparently, the brakes could bring on overheating and the melting of plastic components, or even an engine fire. These recalls come after Mary Barra, the new CEO, issued a “request for a comprehensive internal safety review.”
