10 Millionth Chevy Malibu Produced
In May of this year, General Motors hit a big milestone when it hit 500 million vehicles produced in its history across all of its past and present brands. Now, one of the auto giant’s individual models has hit a milestone of its own. The 10 millionth Chevrolet Malibu has rolled off of the assembly line–a new 2016 model.
The Malibu name first made its debut in 1964, and was originally a trim level of the legendary Chevelle. In a couple of years, the Chevy Malibu was its own car, and it was the first mid-size car in the Chevrolet lineup.
According to GM, when the Malibu was first sold it stood out from the crowd because of the personal relationship dealerships formed with their customers as representatives of Chevrolet. Now, customers can be in constant contact with the automaker thanks to the internet and in-car services like OnStar.
“The Chevy Malibu joins an exclusive club of vehicles that have achieved this extraordinary milestone and we acknowledge it today by honoring the common thread linking every one produced: The customer,” commented Alan Batey, Global Chevrolet President. “Some people are buying their very first Malibu today and others may have driven a Malibu from a different generation as their first car. It is a car that has resonated with customers for more than half a century.”
The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu debuted in New York this year and is now in production. Lighter than its previous generation and with a more spacious interior, the ninth generation of this historic nameplate is ready to continue the Malibu legacy.
