1,800 Volunteers to Participate in teamGM Cares Week

General Motors will enlist the help of more than 1,900 employee volunteers this week to participate in almost 100 different community service-oriented projects around the country. These projects comprise the fourth annual “teamGM Cares Week,” which runs from Monday through Friday.

“Our employees are passionate about giving back year round, both in dollars and time,” said Heidi Magyar, director of GM Community Outreach Programs. “teamGM Cares Week is an annual opportunity for us to rally together in support of the communities across the country in which we live and work.”

Among the projects being undertaken by teamGM Cares Volunteers this week are multiple endeavors across Michigan, including 17 different projects for the Gleaners Community Food Bank at the Warren, Detroit, and Pontiac distribution centers and 18 projects at Grace Centers of Hope in Pontiac.

In Arizona, employees from the Chandler IT Innovation Center will create Build-A-Bears and deliver them to children at Cardon Children’s Medical Center. In Ohio, Parma Metal Center employees with volunteer at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. In Tennessee, Spring Hill Assembly Plant employees will volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. And in Texas, IT Innovation Center employees will prepare and serve breakfast and lunch at the Ronald McDonald House in Austin.

In addition to volunteerism, GM’s “Dollars for Doers” program pledges a $200 grant to eligible nonprofits every year for each time company employees or employee teams contribute 50 hours of volunteer service.
