Before reading any further, it is absolutely imperative that you watch the proceeding video about a 1996 Nissan Maxima. It will take one minute and ten seconds of your time, but it is worth so much more.

All squared away, then? What you’ve just witnessed is the ridiculously impressive commercial for a 1996 Nissan Maxima GLE, posted to YouTube this past September by Ikonik Films. The advertisement was intended to garner interest in a Maxima (also listed on CraigsList) that boasts “an engine, wheels, tires, and an automatic transmission.” And boy, did it ever work.

Despite revealing numerous scratches and scrapes along the body, significant tears in the upholstery, and what may or may not be a ratchet strap holding the bumper on, Nissan stepped up and bought the ’96 Maxima from the intrepid ad-maker.

“A number of people (at Nissan’s Nashville headquarters) want to get their hands on it,” said Dan Bedore, Nissan’s director of product communications, according to Jalopnik.

Nissan offered the owner of the 1996 Nissan Maxima GLE owner $1,400 and an additional $1,000 for a charity of his choice. Not bad, eh? Just don’t go thinking that you’re going to go selling your clunker back to its maker at a premium…at least not without a good helping of creativity.
