2013 BMW 1 Series Overview

2013 BMW 1 Series

What’s New for the 2013 BMW 1 Series

In 2013, the BMW 1 Series returns virtually unchanged with the exception of a few more standard features and slight changes to optional packages. The 135i is also offered in either coupe or convertible body styles.

2013 BMW 1 Series Exterior

The 2013 BMW 1 Series has many characteristics normally seen in the typical BMW, such as the distinct kidney grille, but its sweeping, sculpted body lines add a touch more pizzazz than you would normally see in the carmaker’s lineup. Add the integrated spoiler and you’ve got a sporty, sexy silhouette that practically oozes luxury.

2013 BMW 1 Series Performance

Depending on the model, the powertrain for the BMW 1 Series differs. There are three different 3.0-liter inline-6 engines. The first can be seen on the 128i, which produces 230 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque. This model comes standard with a six-speed manual, though there is an optional six-speed automatic.

The second engine choice is a turbocharged inline-6 for the 135i that churns out a healthy 300 hp and 300 lb-ft or torque. This also comes standard with a six-speed manual, though it is also available with a seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission.

The final option, which is new for 2013, is a modified version of the 135i’s turbocharged engine. It produces a bit more power with 320 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque, with the same standard six-speed manual transmission and optional dual-clutch automated manual.

2013 BMW 1 Series Efficiency

For the 128i, EPA-estimated fuel economy comes in at 21 mpg combined for the automatic and 22 for the manual. The 135i’s turbocharged engine gets an estimated 23 mpg combined with the manual and 21 with the automated.

2013 BMW 1 Series Interior

The interior for the 1 Series is on par with the rest of its class, featuring optional wood and aluminum trims that dress up the cabin a bit. The controls remain easy to use, as BMW is known for, with comfortable seats that make hug you when you’re taking sharp corners. Though room in the back seat isn’t abundant, the trunk size can hold a decent amount of cargo.

2013 BMW 1 Series Safety

Standard safety features include antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, and hill-start assist for the models with manual transmissions. Every model comes with standard airbags, though they change depending on the body style with the convertible’s front-seat side airbags extending higher than the coupe’s.
