What’s New for the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

Holy horsepower! The 2013 Mustang Shelby GT500 gets a whole load of additional power, boasting an incredible 662 hp, making this the most powerful V8 – ever. The GT500 now has top speeds exceeding 200 mph, and has received a good number of exterior and mechanical updates to keep this car running at its best.

Exterior

A new front splitter improves stability and keeps the GT500’s wheels on the ground even at its highest speeds. The GT500 comes standard with 19-inch front wheels and 20-inch rear wheels adorned with high-performance tires, Brembo brakes, a rear spoiler, fog lights, and xenon headlights.
The paint finish includes both side stripes and hood stripes extending from hood to trunk – although these can be omitted for buyers who don’t prefer this look.

Performance

The GT500 is powered by a 5.8-liter supercharged V8, which generates a ridiculous 662 hp and 631 lb-ft of torque. Even more impressive is the fact that 395 lb-ft of torque is available just off idle. Hold on to your seats, folks!

Efficiency

High-performance cars are not known for their fuel efficiency, and we’re guessing if the need for speed is your thing, fuel efficiency isn’t at the top of your priority list. Even so, the Mustang Shelby GT500 gets a respectable 15 mpg combined fuel efficiency. Not terrible considering the power this thing puts out.

Interior

The interior of the Mustang Shelby GT500 comes complete with all the technology and features you would expect of today’s cars, but the materials used inside leave something to be desired. For a sports car in the luxury price-range, we’d like to see upgraded materials. That being said, the interior is well-designed and functional.
The GT500 has outward visibility that can’t be rivaled due to thin A-pillars and rear headrests that flip down.

Safety

Standard safety features include antilock disc brakes, front side airbags, and traction and stability control. Also standard is Ford’s MyKey system, which allows owners to limit the speed and audio volume for safety.
The Shelby received an overall crash rating of four stars in government crash tests.
