At this year’s Texas Truck Rodeo near San Antonio, the brand-new 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe was named the 2013 “CUV of Texas” by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA).  The win adds another trophy to Hyundai’s TAWA mantle after the Santa Fe Sport’s “Compact CUV of Texas” win in the 2012 contest.

The 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe was names the 2013 CUV of Texas.

The Santa Fe beat out the competition handily, thanks largely to its cross-section of power, performance, and prowess.  Powered by a standard 3.3L GDI V6 that generates a segment-topping 290 horsepower and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission for premiere performance, the Santa Fe was a clear cut favorite for TAWA judges from the get.

“TAWA members overwhelmingly selected the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe as the Crossover of Texas,” Michael Marrs, TAWA President, told Hyundai after the votes were tallied.  “Crossovers are important to Texans as they need vehicles that deliver on comfort, functionality and reliability. Hyundai exceeded those expectations and had the best product in the category.”

The Texas Truck Rodeo, in its 21st year, is held annually at the Knibbe Ranch in Spring Branch, Texas and evaluates the industry’s leaders in the truck, SUV, and CUV segments.  With the 2013 CUV of Texas award in hand (and the aim for more to come), the Hyundai Santa Fe modifies that old axiom ever so slightly: everything is bigger in Texas…unless it’s a Santa Fe crossover, in which case it’s mid-size; still, that doesn’t mean it’s any less capable…I mean, not everything has to be big, you know.

At least that’s what we imagine they’re trying to say.
