What’s New for the 2013 Kia Rio 5-Door

The Kia Rio will see a few slight changes for the 2013 model year. First, the Rio EX can no come equipped with automatic stop-start technology. Also, the Rio SX receives standard steering wheel paddle shifters for the automatic transmission.

Hatchbacks are known for being a bit more sporty than their sedan counterparts, and this is more obvious than ever in the 2013 Kia Rio 5-Door. The Rio has a modern design to it, with a simple front fascia highlighting its large headlights, which seem to take over the majority of the Rio’s front end. A 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine powers every 2013 Kia Rio, producing 138 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of torque. The standard transmission for all models but the LX is a six-speed automatic. The LX models come with a standard six-speed manual. If you opt for the EX Eco package, you’ll receive a fuel-saving automatic stop/start system, making it an even more fuel efficient car option.

Fuel economy for the 2013 Rio hatchback comes in around 31 mpg combined for the automatic transmission, with the EX Eco package bumping up that estimation to 32 mpg combined. The manual comes in at the same rate as the Eco automatic with 32 combined.

While the Kia Rio’s cabin doesn’t have the most high-end materials throughout its cabin, it’s stylish, yet simple design and abundant soft-touch surfaces add a touch of tastefulness to the hatchback’s interior that isn’t normally seen in the subcompact class. All controls are easy to use and easily within the driver’s reach, while the available UVO voice-activated electronics interface makes sure that both driver and passenger remain connected to the outside world. Even though it’s considered a subcompact, the Rio’s backseat offers plenty of space for passengers of all sizes, while the cargo room is extremely generous.
