In the competitive small sedan segment, the 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer easily stands out with distinctive styling features and a clean design setting it apart from its competition. The simply design grille and notably square rear create a unique profile, while the optional rear spoiler gives it a sporty look.

Depending on the model you choose, engine options for the 2013 Lancer can change. The Lancer DE and ES are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 148 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, though a continuously variable transmission (CVT) is optional.

For the SE and GT, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder generate 168 hp and 167 lb-ft of torque. The SE has a standard CVT and all-wheel-drive, while the GT has standard front-wheel-drive and the five-speed manual, with an optional CVT with a manual mode.

The final engine option is for the Ralliart, featuring a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 that is the most powerful with 237 hp and 253 lb-ft of torque with standard four-wheel-drive and an automated dual-clutch manual transmission with shift paddles.

Fuel economy for the 2.0-liter comes in at 29 mpg combined, while the 2.4-liter is rated slightly lower with 26 combined. The turbocharged 2.0-liter has the lowest fuel efficiency with a rating of 20 mpg combined.

Though the cabin design isn’t the most appealing in its class with hard plastic materials and a relatively unimpressive cabin design, it offers comfortable seating and generous legroom, both in the back and the front. The rear seats are 60/40-split that fold flat, allowing you to expand the cargo space even more so than normal.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Lancer is worthy of its highest score of “Good” in the organization’s frontal-offset, side-impact, and roof-strength tests. Safety features for the 2013 Lancer include front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, a driver knee airbag, antilock brakes, and stability control.
