Nissan takes brawniness to a whole new level, packing a punch in a small package with the 2013 Frontier. The midsize pickup, with its Crew- or King-sized cabins, has an angular silhouette that puts forth an aggressive air about the truck, hinting at its off-road capabilities.

2013 Nissan Frontier Performance

There are two different engine choices for the 2013 Nissan Frontier. The first is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that comes standard on the extended-cab S and SV models, producing 152 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. It comes standard with a five-speed manual and rear-wheel-drive, while a five-speed automatic is optional.

For the second engine option, a 4.0-liter V6 engine comes optional on the SV extended cab and standard on all other models. This engine produces 261 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. Either a six-speed manual or optional five-speed automatic come standard on the S, SV, and four-wheel-drive Pro-4X, while the two-wheel-drive Desert Runner and SL are automatic only. Each model also has a choice of rear- or four-wheel-drive. When the Frontier is properly equipped, the four-cylinder models can tow up to 3,500 pounds, while the V6 models can tow up to 6,500 pounds.

EPA estimated fuel economy for the 2013 Frontier with the four-cylinder is rated at 21 mpg combined with the manual transmission and 19 combined with the automatic. The V6 achieves 17 mpg combined for the two-wheel-drive vehicles with the automatic transmission, rear-wheel-drive models, and four-wheel-drive models. For the automatic four-wheel-drive models, the mpg comes in at 16 mpg combined.

Comfort and practicality come together in the 2013 Frontier’s cabin with basic controls and dashboard design that show the truck’s functionality. The Extended King Cab has rear-hinged doors that reveal a pair of fold-down jump seats, while the Crew Cab has the perfect amount of space to carry more than one passenger, though it’s not the most comfortable seats available.

2013 Nissan Frontier Safety

Anti-lock disc brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags are all standard safety features. The automatic-equipped two-wheel-drive SL and Pro-4X also come standard with hill descent control and hill-start assist.
