2013 Outlander Sport Recall

2013 Outlander Sport Recall affects 733 models produced between July 20, 2012 and May 29, 2013.

Mitsubishi and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have issued a recall alert for 733 2013 Outlander Sport models manufactured between July 20, 2012 and May 29, 2013. The 2013 Outlander Sport recall only affects vehicles manufactured in that time period that are equipped with leather seats, as the issue of note is wiring in the driver side seat-mounted airbag that may have been improperly routed during the leather seat cover installation process.

According to the NHTSA’s 2013 Outlander Sport recall notice, incorrect wiring can be damaged by using the driver side seat’s height adjustment feature, which would in turn lead to the air bag warning icon lighting up. Should this happen, it becomes possible that the driver side airbag would not deploy in the event of a collision.

As is generally the case during the recall process, Mitsubishi will be in contact with those possessing the 733 Outlander Sport models in question, and dealerships will provide a free inspection and, in the event that the wiring is installed incorrectly or damaged, repair the offending wire or airbag.

2013 Outlander Sport owners may contact Mitsubishi at 1-800-222-0037. Mitsubishi’s recall number is SR-14-001. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
