2013 Toyota Avalon“Was that a Corolla? No, I think it was an Avalon. It could have been a Camry.”

If you have had a tough time differentiating Toyota sedans on the road over the last decade or so, you’re not alone.  Sales have been great for the Camry and Corolla, but Toyota’s entry into the mid-size segment has struggled to gain a foothold, possibly because of stale styling.  The 2013 Toyota Avalon aims to change that in a big way.

“The point of the new Avalon is to show the market that ‘Toyota is Back!’ It will lead the charge for great styling, great handling performance, and the highest and best level of technologies,” said Randy Stephens, chief engineer of Avalon, in a press release.

The 2013 Toyota Avalon flaunts sleek styling and athletic expression that we’ve never seen before from the Japanese automaker; this new design perspective is a good start in shifting the perception of its brand.  The front grille delivers a bold stance that is then streamlined throughout the vehicle thanks to remarkably well-sculpted, aerodynamic lines.

To further increase its appeal, Toyota has added a hybrid option to its lineup.  As if the class-leading combined EPA rating of 25 mpg combined wasn’t enough, the 2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid boasts 40 mpg combined.

Do you think the 2013 Toyota Avalon has what it takes to compete in  the mid-size class?
