For the 2013 model year, the Yaris is bringing a whole lot of fun to its segment, with a silhouette that’s funky, but still appealing to consumers. The subcompact car’s modern grille seems as if it is smiling at you constantly, while the softly curved hatchback rear highlights the sportiness of the Yaris, giving you a hint to the car’s feisty performance.

A 1.5-liter inline-4 engine powers the 2013 Yaris, generating a peppy 106 hp and 103 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel-drive is the standard drivetrain, along with a standard five-speed manual tranmission, though a four-speed automatic is also available.

According to the EPA, the manual Yaris is capable of getting 33 mpg combined, while the automatic gets slightly lower mpg with 32 combined.

Simple and easy are the first words that come to mind when looking at the interior features of the Yaris, with gauges that can be read with a glance and well-finished materials. The infotainment system, which was previously only available with the Tech Audio package, is now standard with the exception of the navigation system. Space isn’t the greatest, as you would expect from a subcompact, but the cargo space is larger than before with split-folding rear seats in the LE and Sport trims.

Government crash testing awarded the Yaris four-door hatchback four out of five stars for overall crashworthiness. Antilock brakes, stability and traction control, active front head restraints, front seat side airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags, and a driver knee airbag are all standard safety features for the subcompact car.
