2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid

What’s New for the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

For 2013, upper-level trims see a few new features and all models (except the base) get new four-wheel disc brakes.

2013 Volkswagen Jetta Exterior

The Jetta has mastered the art of dancing the line between practical sedan and sporty performance vehicle. Its sleek and modern design marries angular body lines with a sloping roofline and curved rear. Standard 15-inch steel wheels add to the Jetta’s sporty façade.

2013 Volkswagen Jetta Performance

The base Jetta S comes standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that puts out 115 hp and 125 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission comes standard and a six-speed automatic is optional.

The Jetta SE and SEL are powered by a 2.5-liter inline-5 that creates 170 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque, and the turbocharged Jetta TDI gets a 2.0-liter diesel inline-4 that produces an impressive 140 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque.

2013 Volkswagen Jetta Efficiency

The Jetta S gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 23 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined with the automatic transmission, and 24 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined with the manual transmission.

The slightly bigger engine of the SE and SEL models return 24 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined for the automatic and 23 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined fuel economy for the manual.

Finally, the turbocharged 2.0-liter diesel gets fantastic fuel ratings, returning 30 mpg city, 42 mpg highway, and 34 mpg combined. This Jetta boasts impressive power and fuel economy, a difficult combination to master.

2013 Volkswagen Jetta Interior

The Jetta’s interior remains quite simple, however we are impressed with the amount of room, both throughout the cabin and in the trunk. Four full-size adults will find the Jetta to be comfortable, and the trunk is largest in its class, adding even more useable space.

The available touchscreen stereo interface and navigation system add some of the technology we’d expect to see in a Volkswagen.

2013 Volkswagen Jetta Safety

The 2013 Jetta comes standard with traction and stability control, active front head restraints, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, and four-wheel antilock disc brakes with brake assist (except the base model, which comes with rear drums).

The Jetta earned an overall top rating of “Good” in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s crash tests, and earned and overall four out of five stars in governmental crash tests.
