2014 BMW i3 Launch Sweeps Europe as 46 Get Keys Early
BMW marked a milestone this past weekend in its quest for better sustainability and superior styling: the official 2014 BMW i3 Launch. In a ceremony featuring many of the top members of the BMW Group, Ian Robertson, a member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, was formally presented the keys to the i3, which is the German carmaker’s first premium electric vehicle.
Robertson then handed those keys over to the first customers, officially putting the i3 on roadways. Now available in Germany and a few other European markets, the BMW i3 offers customers a stylish way to give off zero emissions.

“Today marks a milestone in the history of the BMW Group, as we hand over our first BMW i premium electric vehicle to customers. In doing so, we are bringing sustainable mobility to the roads,” Robertson said during the presentation of keys to 46 BMW “agents.” According to BMW’s official press release, the head of the Bavarian State Chancellor’s Office and State Minister for Federal Affairs and Special Tasks, Christine Haderthauer, and Member of the Board of Management of Allianz SE, Oliver Bäte, were among those first BMW i customers.
The luxury electric car offers a unique architecture with lightweight materials, such as carbon fiber reinforced plastic, and utilizes green production processes to keep the i3 as environmentally sound as possible. As the first salvo in BMW’s quest to make green fashionable and functional, the i3 is perfect for the city dweller with a keen fashion sense thanks to a range of about 80 miles and an unmistakable look.
It’s only fitting that such an innovative vehicle would be made available to consumers in an entirely unique way, as BMW has made the 2014 i3 available to order over the phone and online.
