2014 Dodge Durango Overview
What’s New for the 2014 Dodge Durango
The year 2014 brings some big changes for the Dodge Durango with a new eight-speed automatic transmission, updated front and rear exterior styling, and a redesigned interior with brand new features (say “Hello!” to an 8.4-inch touchscreen).
2014 Dodge Durango Exterior
The perfect mix of ruggedness and elegance, the 2014 Dodge Durango has an exterior that makes you want to travel off the beaten path. Modernized lines and a muscular body create a jaw-dropping silhouette, while the brand-new racetrack taillamp, which stretches across the entire rear of the car, gives the Durango a sporty feel. Add the distinct front grille with its striking contrast between the honeycomb pattern and the sleek, cross-like design, and you’ve got one handsome SUV.
2014 Dodge Durango Performance
Depending on the model you choose, the 2014 Durango can come with either a V6 or V8 engine. The 3.6-liter V6 is offered on the SXT, Limited, and Citadel trim levels, churning out 290 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. For the R/T trim level, the 5.7-liter V8 produces a healthy 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque.
Depending on the model, rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, or four-wheel drive is available, though the light-duty all-wheel-drive system is only available with the V6 engine. All models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission. If the V8 Durango has the proper towing package, it can tow up to 7,400 pounds, while the V6 has a maximum of 6,200.
2014 Dodge Durango Efficiency
EPA-estimated fuel economy for the V6 models is rated at 20 mpg combined with rear-wheel drive and 19 combined for all-wheel drive. The V8 is rated at 17 mpg combined for rear-wheel drive, while the all-wheel drive gets 16 combined.
2014 Dodge Durango Interior
Upscale materials and a modern, yet functional design come together to create a Durango cabin that is the perfect fit for any family. The available 8.4-inch touchscreen display is easy to use with crisp graphics and a logically set up menu. Every one of the three rows offers plenty of comfort and space for passengers of all sizes, while the second row provides easy access to the third row.
2014 Dodge Durango Safety
According to government crash testing, the Durango is a 5-star student in overall crashworthiness, while the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the Durango its highest rating of “Good” in moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side-impact, and roof strength crash tests.
Standard safety features for the 2014 Dodge Durango include antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, trailer sway control, front side airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags. All Durangos come standard with a rearview camera and parking sensors, though these safety features are only an option on the SXT model. Those Durangos with the 8.4-inch touchscreen come with Uconnect Access, providing passengers with an emergency telematics system that connects you with 911 operators at the touch of a button.
