This past week, MotorWeek handed out the honors for their annual Drivers’ Choice Awards at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show, and the hardware-earner in the Best Eco-Friendly vehicle category was none other than the 50 mpg-getting 2014 Accord Hybrid.

Best Eco-Friendly Vehicle

From MotorWeek’s assessment of their choice for Best-Eco Friendly vehicle (which, by the way, would benefit greatly from a sharp-eyed copy editor)

“If highly practical fuel efficiency was a commodity, the Honda Accord Hybrid, our winner for Best Eco-Friendly would be the top seller.  For sure, there are more fuel stingy ways to get around, but for most Americans, EVs are not there yet, and many hybrids come with too many compromises.  Well, the Accord Hybrid is nearly compromise free. While giving up only a little trunk space for 50 miles-per-gallon economy and over 650 miles of range, it delivers all the comfort, security, and good road manners the Accord’s name is known for.”

The 2014 Accord Hybrid, which is built in Marysville, Ohio alongside its gas-powered sibling, runs on an Earth Dreams two-motor hybrid powertrain that utilizes unique drive modes and regenerative braking to get the most mileage possible. All of this, and the Accord Hybrid still offers high-end standard technologies and amenities while proudly boasting its status as top safety rating-earner from both the IIHS and NHTSA.

“For the Accord Hybrid, our priority was not only to achieve outstanding fuel-efficiency but also make it fun-to-drive,” said Michael Accavitti, senior vice president of auto operations for American Honda, in a press release. “Being named a Driver’s Choice is proof that buying a hybrid doesn’t mean you have to give up the joy of driving.”

The title of 2014’s Best Eco-Friendly vehicle marks the 30th time that Honda has taken home a MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice Award.
