2014 Honda Civic LX Recall Notice Issued for Potential Tire Problem
Honda has announced that it will be recalling 9,816 2014 Honda Civic LX vehicles manufactured between November 26, 2013 and January 21, 2014. The cause listed for the Honda Civic LX recall involves potential damage to tires during the mounting process that could potentially result in a loss of air and an increased risk of crash.
The problem was apparently discovered by Honda itself during factory quality checks. According to Edmunds, no warranty claims have been filed and no injuries have been reported.
Honda will notify owners of the models affected by the 2014 Honda Civic LX recall, and certified dealers will perform free inspections and, if necessary, repairs. Honda owners can contact the automaker at 1-800-999-1009; the recall number is JD8.
Owners of vehicles potentially affected may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
While this particular recall pales in comparison to much of what we’ve seen in March, it still begs the question: is the number of vehicles being recalled in 2014 indicative of a lack of overall quality or a greater concern for increasing driver safety and diminishing the potential for problems?
