There are multiple small changes for the 2014 Optima, including updated front and rear styling, better front seats, and a restyled steering wheel. Keyless ignition/entry, a blind-spot monitoring system, rear parking sensors, and new display screens are all new features as well.

A 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine comes standard on the LX, EX, and SX trims, producing 192 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, while a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is optional on the SX and standard on the Limited, producing 274 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. Every Optima comes in front-wheel-drive and with a six-speed automatic transmission.

EPA-estimated fuel economy for the 2.4-liter engine is 27 mpg combined, while the turbocharged engine is rated 24 mpg combined.

Soft-touch materials are abundant, while the Limited trim levels high-quality leather adds a touch of sophistication. According to government crash tests, the Optima is worth five-stars out of five when it comes to safety. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also found the Optima to be top in safety, naming the sedan a Top Safety Pick. Four-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, side airbags, and side curtain airbags are all standard safety features for the 2014 Kia Optima, while a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, and a blind-spot monitoring system all come optional. The Uvo telematics system is also available, which provides drivers with roadside assistance and collision notification.
