URGENT: 2014 Kia Sportage Recall

Kia has voluntarily recalled nearly 12,000 of its 2014 model year Kia Sportages due to incorrect labeling regarding the vehicle’s correct tire pressure. In total, the 2014 Kia Sportage recall affects 11,961 Sportages manufactured between September 30, 2013, through January 11, 2014.

Apparently, the automaker’s best-selling compact crossover has a sticker located on the driver’s side center pillar that recommends that drivers fill their tires one to two PSI below the correct number.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), filling tires at this lower PSI could lead to premature tire wear, which would increase the risk of an accident.

Drivers of the 2014 Sportage should be on the lookout from an official notice from Kia. Dealers will correct this label information, at no cost, and Kia will provide drivers with a sticker for their owners manuals, also at no cost.

If you drive a 2014 Kia Sportage, be on the lookout for this recall notice, if you haven’t yet received one.

Owners may contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542. Kia’s recall campaign number is SC103. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
