2014 Mazda CX-5 Overview

What’s New for the 2014 Mazda CX-5

One of the most notable changes for the 2014 model year is that the Touring and Grand Touring CX-5 models have been given a bigger engine, and with it a welcome boost of power. Mazda worked some magic though, and fuel economy is barely affected.

Other enhancements include an available collision warning and assist system (Smart City Brake Support) and HD and Pandora radio services.

The CX-5 is a five passenger crossover SUV available in three trim levels. The CX-5’s sleek physique comes standard with 17-inch wheels, and its good looks and car-like driving experience continue to make it one of the most popular crossover SUVs on the market.

2014 Mazda CX-5 Performance

If there was one place previous versions of CX-5 absolutely needed some help, it was the engine. The 2014 model addressed the issue, and the Touring and Grand Touring models now come with a bigger engine, boasting a 2.5-liter that puts out 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque.

If you stick with the base Sport model, you’ll still get the same 2-liter engine that produces 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque that all three 2013 CX-5 trims had.

2014 Mazda CX-5 Efficiency

Good news – even though Mazda increased the power behind the CX-5, the fuel economy didn’t take a plunge. The CX-5 Sport gets 29 mpg combined while the upgraded Touring and Grand Touring gets a respectable 27 mpg.

2014 Mazda CX-5 Interior

The interior of the CX-5 is modern and functional, and depending on trim level, you can get everything from just the basics to a fully-loaded crossover SUV. The CX-5 has the whole spectrum of interior design and features, and it’s up to you (and your wallet) to decide how many bells and whistles you need.

In government testing, the CX-5 received a perfect five stars for overall safety rating – it doesn’t get much safer than that! Every CX-5 comes with standard antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front side airbags, and side curtain airbags. Mazda also provides the option for an automatic crash notification feature.
