Sometimes, much to Kermit the Frog’s chagrin, it is easy being green—especially if you’re the 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage. The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) has found the 2014 Mirage to be worthy of its prestigious “Greenest Vehicles” list on greenercars.org for the 2014 model year, making it the highest-ranked gasoline powered non-hybrid vehicle to appear on the list.

The greenercars.org annual ranking lists twelve of the vehicles considered the greenest, highlighting the environmental friendliness of vehicles in the United States. With hybrid and electric cars becoming exponentially more popular in recent years, making the list has become more and more competitive.

The Mirage’s EPA-estimated 40 mpg combined and low price tag of $12,995 makes the car’s presence on the list a no-brainer. The 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage is powered by a 1.2-liter three-cylinder mated to an automatic CVT.

“We’ve had such an influx of hybrid and electric vehicles in recent years that the race to earn a spot on the ‘Greenest’ list is more competitive than ever, particularly for conventional vehicles. It’s encouraging to see automakers investing heavily in eco-savvy vehicles on the whole,” said ACEEE lead vehicle analyst Shruti Vaidyanathan in a statement released by Mitsubishi.
