The Mitsubishi i SE got the best overall Fuel economy of any hatchback with 116 MPGe Highway.

Consumer Reports has unveiled its list of the 2014 models with best and worst fuel economy, ranking vehicles by segment. Rather than simply create a list that accounts for every vehicle available on the road, Consumer Reports bears in mind consumers with categorical needs and does the diligence.

Not surprisingly, most of the segment-toppers are some kind of hybrid/electric vehicle. Of all vehicles tested, the top three hatchback options were also the top three overall vehicles for fuel economy, with the Tesla Model S coming in fourth. We have listed the three best of the best for all 11 segments and the 13 least fuel efficient vehicles below:
