2014 Subaru Outback Exterior

The Subaru Outback is known as the perfect car for those looking to go off the beaten trail—something that its exterior reflects. Sturdy roof rails, a rugged front façade, and a subtly curved rear end create a look that encourages you to take the Outback on an adventure. A high ground clearance encourages you to go wherever your heart desires, no matter the obstacles that are in your way, while the available power moonroof enables the outside to really come into the cabin. Overall, the 2014 Subaru Outback is the go-to crossover wagon for those who really want to see what nature has to offer.

2014 Subaru Outback Performance

Two different engine options are available for the 2014 Subaru Outback. The first is a 2.5-liter boxer four-cylinder that produces 173 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque, which is available only on the 2.5i models. This engine comes with either a six-speed manual or a CVT. If you’re looking for more power, the second powetrain is for you. A 3.6-liter boxer six-cylinder engine churns out 256 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque, and is paired with a five-speed automatic with shift paddles. Each Subaru comes standard with all-wheel drive, perfect for off-roading.

2014 Subaru Outback Efficiency

Outback models with the four-cylinder CVT combination will see an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 26 mpg combined, while the six-speed manual gets a bit lower 24 mpg combined. The 3.6-liter gets the least amount of fuel economy in the group, with 20 mpg combined.

2014 Subaru Outback Interior

There’s no need to worry about getting the 2014 Outback dirty—hard plastic and durable leathers come together to create a cabin that can take a lot of wear and tear, while still making sure passengers are comfortable. Head and legroom is abundant throughout the cabin, making it extremely family friendly, while the rear seatbacks also recline to allow optimum comfort. Cargo space is similar to other members of its segment, but the built-in roof rails extend storage capability more so than other crossovers.

2014 Subaru Outback Safety

When it comes to safety, the 2014 Outback is a top-notch contender, earning five out of five possible stars for its overall performance in government crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also found the crossover wagon to be exceptional in safety, awarding the Outback its highest Top Safety Pick+ award after receiving the highest possible “Good” rating in the majority of its tests. Standard safety features for the Outback include four-wheel antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front seat side airbags, and side curtain airbags that cover both rows. There is also an available rearview camera starting on the CVT-equipped Premium and Limited models.
