2014 Prius c Overview

2014 Toyota Prius c Exterior

The smallest of the Toyota Prius models, the Prius c looks almost exactly like its larger counterparts miniaturized. Its distinctive front is a bit shorter than other Prii, but there is still a smooth transition from the sporty, rounded front all the way to the boxy rear. There is no two-piece rear window normally seen in a Prius, but the long roof spoiler adds to its aerodynamics. At first glance, you might not even think it’s a hybrid—but it definitely is.

2014 Toyota Prius c Performance

A smaller size means a smaller powertrain with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that, combined with the Hybrid Synergy Drive system, has an output of only 73 horsepower. It doesn’t seem like much, but if you push it hard, it will definitely keep up with traffic. There’s even an EV mode that will keep the car in all-electric drive at low speeds for up to half a mile. The Eco mode will use fuel in a thriftier way, meaning you will save a significant amount of fuel.

2014 Toyota Prius c Efficiency

Like its larger brethren, the 2014 Prius c gets the same 50 mpg combined—something surprisingly difficult to pull off in a small car.

With a classic Prius Multi-Information Display mounted in the center of the dash and enough rear room that can easily fit two six-foot adults, the interior of the Prius c might be a bit more conventional than other Prius models, but it makes up for it in its fuel efficiency.

2014 Toyota Prius c Safety

Nine standard airbags, along with a whole suite of electronic safety systems, such as stability control and Brake Assist for the anti-lock brakes, got last year’s Prius c named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a four out of five star rating overall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
