2014 Tundra Sales Make for an Exceptional Year

As we learned yesterday, 2014 was a mighty successful year for Toyota trucks and full-size SUVs—and it was particularly successful for the Tundra. 2014 Tundra sales increased by 5.1% over 2013 sales, meaning the Japanese automaker sold a whopping 118,493 Tundra pickups between January 1st and December 31st. With gas prices remaining competitive across the US, Toyota expects even more sales in 2015.

The 2015 Toyota Tacoma

While 2014 was the year of the Tundra, the truck’s smaller Tacoma sibling saw a decrease in sales over that in 2013—an almost 3% decrease. However, as the weather cooled down in the later part of the year, the Tacoma became a more popular choice, with an 11.9% increase in sales in December 2014 over December 2013. The Tacoma is expected to increase in popularity in 2015 following the release of the all-new 2016 Tacoma, which is set to debut at the Detroit Auto Show next week.

Since 2014 was a pretty dang successful year for Toyota, we at The News Wheel wonder if the Japanese automaker can continue this momentum in 2015. Last year saw the release of a made-over Camry and Sienna, both of which proved to be extremely popular models. Will the new Tacoma have the same appeal to drivers as the redesigned Camry and Sienna did? Time will only tell, but given the growing demand for mid-size pickup trucks, we’re fairly certain the Tacoma will help keep Toyota sales going through this year and into the next.
