For the last 17 years, the Chicago Auto Show has held a food drive for A Safe Haven’s Community Food Pantry, which benefits those in need in the Chicago area. The food drive will be held again this year at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show from February 18th through the 20th.

On those days, auto show attendees who bring three cans of food to the booth at the auto show will receive a coupon for $6 admission. There are a number of other ways to get discount tickets to the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, but this is by far the most rewarding.

“Over the past 17 years the Chicago Auto Show has collected over 300,000 pounds of food for A Safe Haven and we believe that the food drive is an important element of the work we do each year in putting on the Auto Show in this great community,” remarked Dave Sloan, General Manager of the 2014 Chicago Auto Show.

A Safe Haven’s main campus is located just five miles from McCormick Place, where the Chicago Auto Show is held each year. The food pantry not only distributes food to families in the “food desert” in this area of Chicago, but it also feeds residents at the homeless services organization. This organization is crucial in helping the homeless develop the skills they need to land jobs and get back on their feet. Specifically, all the meals that are served up at A Safe Haven are made by residents in the food services job training program offered at the homeless services organization, which boasted an 80% success rate in 2014 (i.e. 80% of the residents in this program got jobs in the food services industry).

If you’re planning to go to check out the new cars in the Windy City next week on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, be sure to hit up the 2015 Chicago Auto Show food drive booth with some canned goods. You’ll be making a difference—and saving some money to boot.
