2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible: The Big Nasty Drops the Top
We were all properly blown away back in January when Chevrolet unveiled the 2015 Corvette Z06 at the North American International Auto Show. With an LT4 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that doles out 625 horsepower, an optional eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission, and a variety of downforce-and-aerodynamics-boosting options, how could the Z06 possibly get any better? The answer: the 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible. That’s how.
The 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible will be the first of its kind in more than 50 years. The last time a Z06 Convertible was manufactured was in 1963 during the initial year of the Z06 package offering. Of the 199 Z06s ordered, only one was a convertible. So, yeah, this has been a long time coming.
“The Z06 Convertible is a world-class supercar in every sense,” said Mark Reuss, executive vice president, Global Product Development, in a press release. “Only a handful of convertibles in the world bring more than 600 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. Even fewer can match the advanced technologies, aerodynamic design, and visceral driving experience of the Z06 Convertible.”
Granted, the 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible is otherwise identical to its hardtop sibling, but that doesn’t mean you should be any less excited about it. Imagine the 2015 Z06 as the coolest person you’ve ever met with muscles of steel and the intelligence of a theoretical physicist. Now picture their twin sibling, who is also the coolest person you’ve ever met with muscles of steel and the intelligence of a theoretical physicist, only without a hat. That’s what you get with the 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible. Sort of.
