Bowling Green, Tonawanda to Build 2015 Corvette Z06 Engines
The 2015 Corvette Z06 engines will be manufactured at the Tonawanda plant in New York and the Performance Build Center in Kentucky.
GM Authority is reporting that both the Tonawanda plant and the Bowling Green Performance Build Center will be responsible for building the 2015 Corvette Z06 engines (for both the Z06 and Z06 Convertible). The Z06 is powered by an LT4 supercharged V8 good for—hold on to your hats—650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque.
The Tonawanda, New York, engine facility is no stranger to engine production—go figure. But the GM Performance Build Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky, was likely chosen for a very specific reason, according to GM Authority. That reason? To build the engines for those who take part in the Corvette Engine Build Experience, in which drivers will help to assemble the very engine that will go on to power their own super Corvette. This speculation remains unconfirmed by General Motors, however.
According to the report, it has not yet been made clear if the transmission (either a seven-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic) will play a part in determining the facility at which the 2015 Corvette Z06 engines are assembled.
