Today, Chrysler Group announced the EPA-estimated 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat fuel economy.

Today, Chrysler Group announced the EPA-estimated 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat fuel economy.

Our jaws dropped when Chrysler Group told us that the all-new Challenger Hellcat model would lay down 707 horsepower. Then they dropped even farther when we learned that it could do a quarter mile in 11.2 seconds. And now that the official 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat fuel economy has been announced, our mouths are scraping the floor.

The world’s fastest and most powerful muscle car has earned an EPA-estimated 22 mpg on the highway with the segment-exclusive TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission.

“The new 2015 Dodge Challenger is the perfect street / strip muscle car,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO, Dodge and SRT Brands. “As the fastest muscle car ever, the Challenger Hellcat can run 10-second ETs at the track, and then get 22 miles per gallon on the drive home. With a starting price of $59,995, there’s nothing else that even comes close.”

That’s right: less than $60K gets you a performance beast. Let’s take a look at some of the competition and see how it fares.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat vs. Aston Martin Vanquish

2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Fuel Economy | Aston Martin Vanquish

The Aston Martin Vanquish

The Aston Martin Vanquish boasts only 576 horsepower yet yields just 18 mpg on the highway. It retails for $287,820. So, in short, the Vanquish sees a power downgrade of 131 hp, a fuel economy downgrade of 4 mpg, but a price hike of $227,825. And the winner is…the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat vs. Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT

By far the Hellcat’s closest competitor in price (at $221,580—ha!), the SLS AMG GT produces just 583 horsepower while attaining 19 mpg on the highway. For the Mercedes, that’s a loss of 124 hp and 3 mpg, yet a price bump of $161,585. And the winner is (again)…the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat vs. Lamborghini Aventador Roadster

The Lamborghini Aventador Roadster

This is the Challenger’s fiercest competitor in terms of power, with the Lambo at a respectable 700 horsepower. The Aventador Roadster, however, cannot match the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat fuel economy, at just 18 mpg. Oh, and did we mention that it retails for $425,845? To recap, that’s a loss of 7 hp and 4 mpg, and a price increase of—hold on to your hats—$365,850. And the winner is (a third time)…the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.

It’s not that the competition can’t keep up; it’s that there is no competition.

Bob Lee, Chrysler Group LLC Vice President and Head of Engine, Powertrain, and Electrified Propulsion Systems Engineering, summed it up best: “The collective benefits of the HEMI Hellcat engine and our newest TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission promise an extraordinarily rewarding ownership experience. If value is defined by the combination of price, performance and fuel economy, no car beats the Challenger SRT Hellcat.”
