For all the bells and whistles that are incorporated in new pickup trucks, one thing remains vital for it to perform to function: a durable and capable truck bed. Ford, whose 2015 F-150 comes with all degrees of aforesaid bells and whistles, wants to make sure that everyone knows that its truck bed is better than anyone else’s thanks to the inclusion of class-exclusive BoxLink™ cargo management system and LED box lights.

BoxLink offers up four lockable tie-down cleats and provides extra space for more tie downs should they be required. The eight possible tie-down points and the reinforcement thereof create accommodations for a horizontal load of 275 pounds and a diagonal load of 600 pounds. Yeah, that’s pretty good.

“Customers told us not to touch the box,” said Adrian Aguirre, Ford engineer and co-inventor of BoxLink. “They want to tailor it to their unique needs, and this system allows for easy adaptation to a variety of applications.”

Also adding to the performance of the 2015 F-150’s cargo box is LED interior lighting that provides superior visibility in dark conditions. The Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum models also incorporate an LED spotlight into the release handle of the tailgate that lights the trailer hitch.

Bonus points: Ford is letting aftermarket manufacturers use BoxLink to their hearts’ content in the effort of creating even more customized set-ups.

“This is an open system,” said Alana Strager, Ford program management analyst and co-inventor of the BoxLink system. “We have facilitated the aftermarket in a way that has never been done before by an automaker. The possibilities are endless.”
