2015 F-150 Grand Award Winner in Popular Science Awards
It’s been a big week for the 2015 Ford F-150, to be sure. The first truck rolled off the assembly line at Dearborn Truck Plant on Tuesday, and the event was so momentous that Pro Football Hall of Famer/reputable gaptooth/suddenly buffed-up Michael Strahan was on hand to welcome the full-size pickup truck into the world.
Now, Ford has yet another reason to celebrate its all-new pickup truck: it has been named the Grand Award Winner in Popular Science’s “Best of What’s New” awards.
Naturally, one of the big reasons for this latest award was the application of military-grade aluminum-alloy in the F-150’s body and bed, which results in weight savings of up to 700 pounds over the outgoing model. The impact that this change will have on both the customers and the environment is the focal point of PopSci’s praise.
The 2015 Ford F-150 also no doubt earns points for being the smartest F-150 ever built, thanks in large part to a number of handy driver-assist features and the all-new BoxLink cargo management system.
This is not the first award that the new F-150 has won, and it is not expected to be the last. The F-150 has already earned the Truck of Texas award and the Yankee Cup for Trucks, and it is an early favorite to take home the 2015 North American Truck of the Year award at the Detroit Auto Show.
