2015 Ford Edge Production Kicks Off at Oakville

O Canada

2015 is going to be a huge year for new Ford vehicles, and one of the brightest spots in the lineup is the all-new Ford Edge. It was announced today that Ford’s Oakville Assembly plant—located just outside of Toronto, Canada—has begun production on the new Edge, which will ultimately be exported to more than 100 countries around the globe.

To aid Oakville in the endeavor of launching the Edge, Ford also announced that it would be adding 400 new employees to the plant to support production. Ford added 1,000 new jobs in October of last year, which followed a C$700 investment to convert the facility into a global hub.

“The all-new Ford Edge is a true global vehicle and a showcase of Ford’s product excellence,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford’s president of the Americas. “Thanks to the new capabilities at Oakville Assembly, the 2015 Edge delivers improved driving dynamics, quality, quietness, interior space and even more technology, and we are proud for our Canadian team to start bringing Edge to customers in even more markets around the world.”

The 2015 Edge will be rolled out later this year in all of Ford’s major global markets as the automaker continues to capitalize on gains in the mid-size crossover segment. Since launching the Edge eight years ago, Ford has taken the top sales spot in the US mid-size crossover market seven times. The automaker hopes that this good mojo can be passed onto emerging markets like Europe and Asia.

“We’re proud to show the world advanced manufacturing right here in Canada and look forward to serving new global customers,” said Dianne Craig, president and CEO, Ford Motor Company of Canada, Ltd. “The Oakville Assembly team has worked relentlessly to deliver a quality product to the highest standard – from bringing in the best of Ford’s manufacturing technologies to training new employees across the facility.”
