2015 Ford Expedition

Last week, Ford unveiled the all-new 2015 Ford Expedition, ahead of the 2014 DFW Auto Show. This time around, the Expedition will be complete with Ford’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost™ engine, popularized by the F-Series. The new engine improves not only the Expedition’s fuel economy, but also boosts its horsepower and torque at low engine speeds.

“Expedition becoming the latest Ford utility vehicle to wear the EcoBoost badge will be exciting for customers,” commented Doug Scott, Ford truck group marketing manager. “Increased torque and horsepower, combined with new levels of efficiency and an advanced suspension not only will make Expedition more fun to drive, but also easier to own. This is another ‘and’ solution from Ford.”

The engine is the only option available to North American customers and will be mated to a six-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission that includes a manual mode. This mode lets drivers select a gear by utilizing a shift-mounted rocker switch. The Expedition will also be the first Ford to feature continuously controlled damping with three driver modes—comfort, normal, and sport—to manage the Expedition’s natural body motion.

Ford has also thrown electric power-assisted steering into the mix for enhanced maneuverability. Not only will this improve driving performance, but it also has a positive effect on fuel efficiency.

“This new Expedition is proof Ford is committed to remaining the leader in utilities – small, medium and large,” explained Jackie DiMarco, Expedition chief engineer. “We listened to our customers and created a full-size utility vehicle that doesn’t compromise in performance, technology or design.”

Big changes weren’t just limited to under the hood, however. The 2015 Ford Expedition will now offer SYNC with MYFord Touch, as well as a Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert. In addition, the Expedition will see the addition of Intelligent Access with push-button start; seven-color, interior ambient LED lighting; Ford truck apps for enhanced towing and off-roading; a 10-speak, 700-watt Sony audio system; and a rearview camera.

The Blue Oval has also restyled the 2015 Ford Expedition. For the very first time, the Expedition will be offered with the F-Series’ popular Platinum trim package, which includes leather seating.

Ford also promises different themes for each trim. The XLT emits sportiness while the Limited is called “confident” and “elegant.” The Platinum continues the sophistication, but with a more urban feel.

The front end of the Expedition has been updated, now featuring available LED fog lamps. In addition, the exterior features a redesigned rear hatch, chrome-tipped exhaust pipes, and an all-new wheel lineup.

The 2015 Ford Expedition will launch later this year.
