Ford has gone to great lengths to outline the numerous ways that the new 2015 F-150 improves on the formula put forth by its predecessors. One of the most exciting aspects of the new F-150, however, borrows liberally from another Ford favorite.

The all-new F-150 features a new sport mode similar to that found in the new 2015 Mustang. Sport mode, which is activated by pressing the tow/haul button twice, changes the frequency of gearshifts to hold steady at lower gears for longer periods of time. The result is less gear-shifting on more challenging roads, which makes for a more responsive—and sporty—ride.

“Our team realized how well the new F-150 handled and responded to acceleration due to its reduced weight,” said Karl Jungbluth, Ford transmission calibration engineer. “So we decided we could adapt the sport mode capabilities of the six-speed automatic transmission from Mustang to F-150 to enhance the overall driving experience for truck customers.”

Sport mode keeps the F-150 operating in a sweet spot for a longer stretch, allowing for quicker acceleration and more reactivity to pedal presses. The sport mode feature is standard on all F-150s, standing as yet another reason why it’s the best one ever built.
