2015 Ford Mustang GT Car and Driver's 10BestCar and Driver has named the 2015 Ford Mustang GT one of its 10Best cars, marking the 9th time that Ford’s pony car has appeared on the prestigious list.

The award, which honors new cars that are available in the US for less than $80,000, has been given to the Mustang four times in the past four years. This award marks the first of what will likely be many such honors for the sixth-generation Mustang.

“It’s a huge honor to have the Mustang GT recognized on Car and Driver’s 10Best list,” said Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer. “The substantial amount of time and effort our engineering team put into Mustang has paid off; we’re hopeful that the car has a substantial presence on the 10Best list for years to come.”

The Mustang first appeared on the Car and Driver 10Best list back in 1983, when the magazine’s editors said that the performance car was being hailed far and wide as “the greatest thing since draft beer.” It was also praised for having a reasonable base price for a performance car: $9,702.

This time out, Car and Driver compared the 2015 Mustang to the beautiful result of making the right move in an intricate piece of art, stating that the decision to switch to an independent rear axle led to something that was unprecedented in its refinement.

“Dive into a series of challenging turns in the Mustang and you’re not driving a car, you’re wearing wheels” Car and Driver’s comments conclude.  “It reminds us that driving a great car can be play, something that even grownups enjoy.”
