Today, General Motors released figures for both the 2015 GMC Canyon and the 2015 Chevy Colorado fuel economy. Both models will boast segment-leading efficiency numbers, confirmed by the EPA. To be exact, the pickups will carry highway fuel economies that range from 3 to 5 mpg better than direct competitors.

The V6 engine, which generates 305 horsepower and is mated to a six-speed automatic, is offered with two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. Two-wheel-drive models boast 26 mpg on the highway, 18 mpg in the city, and 21 mpg combined. Four-wheel-drive models yield 24 mpg on the highway, 17 mpg in the city, and 20 mpg combined.

Estimates for the four-cylinder engines have not yet been finalized. A 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel will be available in 2016.

“Colorado offers some of the best EPA fuel economy estimates of any pickup in a fun-to-drive, easy-to-own package,” said Tony Johnson, Colorado marketing manager. “Colorado proves you don’t have to buy a lot of expensive technology to save money at the pump.”

Of the Canyon, Kenn Bakowski, Canyon marketing manager, stated, “The all-new 2015 GMC Canyon adds segment-leading fuel economy to its winning resume. Innovations such as available active grille shutters combine with an aerodynamic design in a smaller, more maneuverable package to set a new standard for fuel economy in midsize trucks.”
