2015 Mitsubishi Mirage named Most Affordable Vehicle

2015 Mitsubishi Mirage

Granted, not all of the publicity surrounding the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage has been the most glowing stuff, but here’s some objective knowledge: it’s the most affordable new car you can buy. Cars.com named the 2015 Mirage the most affordable vehicle that shoppers can buy today, not just for a price (including options and destination fee) that starts just a hair above $15,000, but for its low 5-year projected fuel cost.

“When we considered the most affordable cars, it was important that we looked only at models equipped with basic but important options like an automatic transmission and power windows and locks,” said Joe Wiesenfelder, Cars.com’s Executive Editor. “More often than not, entry-level cars with the lowest sticker prices are equipped only with a manual transmission and little to no additional features. We wanted to help consumers who want an incredibly affordable car to find one that also includes the niceties that almost every shopper has come to expect.”

The Mirage beat the second-place runner-up Scion iQ by more than $1,900. No vehicle on the list was within $700 of the price of a well-equipped Mirage, and the only vehicle with a better projected five year fuel cost was the Prius c One hybrid.

“Having a trusted consumer automotive resource like Cars.com name one of your vehicle offerings as the single most affordably-priced new vehicle model is high praise, indeed,” said Don Swearingen, Executive Vice President of MMNA, in a statement. “It is further testament to what our customers have been telling us all along: The Mitsubishi Mirage – with its low price, outstanding fuel economy, great warranty and welcome convenience features – is an all-around exceptional new-car value.”
