The 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost will get 31 MPG highway

For decades, one of the first questions on the minds of those considering buying a brand new Mustang has undoubtedly been: well, is it good on gas? We joke of course, but here’s the rub: for the 2015 Mustang EcoBoost, you might be able to respond by saying pretty good, actually. According to leaked window stickers obtained by the folks over at Mustang6G, the Mustang EcoBoost will get 31 miles per gallon highway when equipped when a manual transmission. Yes, you didn’t misread that: 31 MPG on the highway.

The Mustang EcoBoost also gets 22 mpg city and 26 mpg combined, which compares favorably to the base V6 with either manual (17 mpg city/28 mpg highway) or automatic (19 mpg city/28 mpg highway) transmissions. Oh, and did we mention that the 2.3-liter turbo EcoBoost will also generate 10 horsepower more than the V6?

More powerful and more efficient? Yeah, we’re pretty sure the EcoBoost is the one you want.

That is, of course, unless the GT and its V8 are the ones you want. While Mustang6G didn’t get their hands on those figures, it’s a fair bet that they are probably less efficient than the V6. Also, it’s estimated that the sun will rise tomorrow and that the ocean will be wet.

Green Car Reports compared the EcoBoost’s EPA-estimated efficiency with that of the 1984 Mustang (which was also powered by a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder). Comparatively, ’84 was rated at 18 mpg city/22 mpg highway/20 mpg combined with the three-speed automatic and 19 mpg city/22 mpg highway/22 mpg overall with the four-speed manual. The beloved 1984 Mustang SVO and its turbo-four (mated to a five-speed manual) only stacked up to 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway/19 mpg combined while generating 175 horsepower.

Did we mention that if you’re going to get a 2015 Mustang, you’re going to want the EcoBoost? Because, yeah, the EcoBoost.
