You may not yet be able to buy the 2015 Ford Mustang, but you can rest just a little bit easier knowing that they are being made at this very minute. The next-gen pony has officially begun production at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant.

Production of the 2015 Mustang will be significant in that it will mark both the first time that the American-made Mustang will be exported to countries across the globe and the first time the Mustang has been factory-built in a right-hand-drive configuration.

Flat Rock Assembly Plant is no stranger to Mustang milestones: just last year, the 1 millionth Mustang—a Ruby Red 2014 Mustang convertible—rolled off its production line. In the last year, Flat Rock has added new features such as a state-of-the-art body shop and began utilizing new techniques such as 3-Wet paint and 3D dirt detection.

“What an honor it is for the hardworking and dedicated UAW Local 3000 workers of Flat Rock Assembly Plant to build the next-generation Mustang,” said UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles. “I don’t think there is any place in the world where this vehicle is not known. To build it right here in Michigan is something to be proud of.”

Flat Rock Assembly Plant also produces the Ford Fusion. Currently, the facility has approximately 3,000 employees.
