2015 Ford Mustang makes 2015 NACOTY final ballot

With today’s release of the North American Car and Truck of the Year final ballot, Ford must feel awful cozy knowing that it has a 33% chance to win North American Car of the Year and a 66% chance to win North American Truck of the Year.

Granted, these are only odds on the face of things: the 2015 Mustang was one of three cars short-listed, and both the Ford F-150 and Lincoln MKC made the cut for the 2015 awards ceremony, which will be held at the 2015 North American International Auto Show on January 12th.

But the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang and F-150 have long been considered favorites to sweep the awards, thanks to mountains of hype and a consistent stream of critical and consumer praise.

Similarly, both the Mustang and the F-150 have already been on the receiving end of numerous awards and honors, with the former recently being named one of Car and Driver’s 10Best and the Esquire Car of the Year and the latter winning the Truck of Texas and the Grand Award in Popular Science’s Best of What’s Around Awards.

It would be unwise to sleep on the 2015 Lincoln MKC, however; the new crossover has been burning up the sales charts for Ford’s luxury brand, recently becoming its best-selling model in the month of November on the heels of an insanely successful and much-lampooned ad campaign starring Matthew McConaughey.

Despite the odds ever being in Ford’s favor, it will face some stuff competition in from the Hyundai Genesis and VW Golf (including the TSI, TDI, and GTI) for NACOTY and the Chevrolet Colorado for NATOTY.
