2015 Subaru WRX Fails to Melt Faces at LA Auto Show

At the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, Subaru took so much of what made Jalopnik call the previously-revealed WRX Concept “so hot it will melt your eyeballs” and shoved it into the rally-ready 2015 Subaru WRX that seems no less capable of turning your eyes into goop and melting your entire face than the Ark of the Covenant.

“Rex” looks ridiculous with a deep front spoiler and hexagonal grille to accentuate its aggressive, wide-body stance.  The hood, front fenders, rear doors and quarters, bumpers, headlights and taillight clusters are entirely unique to the 2015 WRX, according to Subaru’s press release.

We could continue to tell you all about how unique and amazing and face-meltingly-wonderful the 2015 Subaru WRX looks.  Or we could just show you some pictures, courtesy of Subaru.

(Note: Pictures are scientifically proven to be incapable of actually melting your face)

There, that’s better, isn’t it?  We trust that your eyeballs are still entirely intact.  What can’t be demonstrated through pictures, regardless of whether they are worth a thousand words or not, is the power that the 2015 Subaru WRX will boast.  The new WRX 2.0L 4-cylinder BOXER engine will combine direct injection, high compression, Subaru’s Dual Active Valve Control System (D-AVCS), a twin-scroll turbocharger, and an intercooler to create 268 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque.  Like we said: ridiculous.

The WRX will present drivers with the option of the all-new Sport Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission, which combines CVT’s fuel efficiency benefits with the ability to chose from eight pre-selected automatic shifting ratios and 6-speed and 8-speed manual shifting modes when in Sport Sharp mode and when using steering wheel paddle switches, respectively.

Okay, so maybe we didn’t make any guarantees regarding the melting of your brain.

No word yet as to pricing or release date, but we think that it’s safe to say that the 2015 Subaru WRX is going to end up blowing our minds (figuratively speaking, of course) sometime within the next year.  Hopefully, there is little possibility of the WRX being studied by top men.  Top.  Men.
