What’s New for the 2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid?

2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid Overview

Not a huge amount is new this model year for the Avalon Hybrid. Every trim level comes with some form of Toyota’s next-generation Entune infotainment system, and the XLE Touring trim level now comes with standard blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

Apart from that, the Avalon Hybrid enters 2015 relatively unchanged.

2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid Exterior

2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid Overview

From the outside, you’d never guess that this vehicle was hiding an ultra-efficient hybrid engine under the hood. Similarly to the gasoline-only version, the Avalon Hybrid’s exterior is designed to look similar to much more expensive European imports. The main difference is in the Avalon Hybrid’s price tag, which starts at $36,470 MSRP. If you were looking at a luxury full-size sedan, you’d be paying a heck of a lot more than that.

2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid Performance

2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid Overview

Under the hood of the 2015 Avalon Hybrid, you’ll find a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine alongside an electric motor. Together, the two produce a not-too-shabby 200 horsepower. The battery pack is mounted in the trunk, so it’s not in the way of backseat passengers. The Avalon Hybrid is capable of a zero-to-60 time of 7.7 seconds—not bad considering the sheer size and weight of the vehicle, and the fact that hybrids tend to be a little slower off the mark than their gasoline counterparts.

2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid Efficiency

2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid Overview

The 2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid is a real winner when it comes to fuel efficiency. Boasting EPA-estimated ratings of 40 mpg city, 39 mpg highway, and 40 mpg combined, this large sedan boasts better gas mileage than even the Corolla, but with a so much more space. The Avalon Hybrid also has a much larger gas tank—17 gallons—which means that it could technically go 700 miles between trips to the pump. For a full-size car, it doesn’t get much better than that!

2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid Interior

To describe the Avalon Hybrid’s interior as “upscale” would be a bit of an understatement. Every model is equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control (three-zone on the Hybrid Limited model), leather-trimmed seats and steering wheel, and wood-grain-style interior trim with smoked chrome accents and door handles. On the top-end Limited model, you’ll also enjoy ambient lighting, heated rear seats, and perforated leather heated and ventilated front seats.

Infotainment comes in the form of the updated Entune system, which offers Bluetooth connectivity, SiriusXM radio, and an integrated backup camera. In the Hybrid XLE Touring, you’ll also get standard navigation, and in the Hybrid Limited you’ll find Entune Premium JBL Audio with 11 JBL GreenEdge speakers in nine locations.

2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid Safety

2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid Overview

Each 2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid model is equipped with 10 airbags, antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, an energy-absorbing collapsible steering column, front and rear energy-absorbing crumple zones, collision sensors, and an anti-theft system. A blind spot monitor is standard on XLE Touring and Limited models, while a pre-collision system is available as part of an options package on the Limited trim level.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the 2015 Avalon Hybrid five out of five stars for its performance in various crash tests. Although the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) hasn’t tested the Hybrid model, the gasoline-only Avalon was named a Top Safety Pick.
