The 2015 Toyota Camry

When you think of the Toyota Camry, the word “upscale” probably isn’t the first to come to mind. Sure, it’s a reliable, affordable, efficient sedan that Americans tend to buy in droves. But the Camry has always embraced practicality over luxury. Until now, that is. In the latest model, Toyota has made a conscious effort to glam up the Camry from the outside in, and a recent 2015 Toyota Camry test drive explores these changes in more detail.

The Camry in question was tested by Time magazine. The writer—Bill Saporito, a New York City native—describes the 2015 Camry as having “a little bit more thoroughbred swagger and sheen” than its predecessor. Some of the features that make the Camry more upscale include a rear backup camera, a redesigned front grille, Entune infotainment system, LED headlights, and dual chrome-tipped exhaust pipes. Of course, these features aren’t standard on the more affordable base model—this test drive involved a Camry XSE, which starts at $26,150, but was tested with add-ons that brought the price up to $35,000.

Of course, you can get a base LE Camry with an MSRP of $22,970. This model might not have all the jazz of the XSE, but it certainly has some upscale qualities that will appeal to a broad range of buyers. These include standard features like daytime running lights, heated power side mirrors, Entune infotainment, Bluetooth connectivity, that backup camera, wood-grain-style interior trim, and an optional sunroof. Not bad for a midsize sedan that’s primarily seen as a boring, reliable ride that will last you for years to come!
