The 2015 Toyota Tacoma

Not much has changed from the 2014 model, but the 2015 Toyota Tacoma lineup no longer includes the three-seat Regular Cab configuration. Additionally, the automaker has added a Toyota Racing Development (TRD) version of the Tacoma for those looking for an exciting off-road experience.

2015 Toyota Tacoma Exterior

2015 Toyota Tacoma Overview

While it’s nice to have a comfortable interior, the exterior of the truck usually tips the balance as to whether you’ll buy it or not. The most important part of a truck—its bed—is where the vehicle’s real utility comes into play. In the 2015 Tacoma, a 6-foot bed is standard in both the Access Cab and Double Cab models, while the latter also offers the option of a 5-foot bed for those who don’t need the additional space.

Standard features include multi-reflector halogen headlights, a deck rail system, and four fixed cargo bed tie-down points. 15-inch steel wheels are standard, although other options include 16-inch steel or alloy wheels, 17-inch alloy wheels, or 18-inch chrome-clad alloy wheels.

Choosing the Tacoma TRD Pro model will get you off-road suspension, off-road shocks and tires, and standard four-wheel drive, as well as an array of styling features to let other drivers know just how tough your truck is.

2015 Toyota Tacoma Performance

2015 Toyota Tacoma Overview

The 2015 Toyota Tacoma comes standard with a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque.  Also available is a 4.0-liter V6 that cranks out 236 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. The engines are driven either by a five- or six-speed manual transmission, or a four- or five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. Drivetrain options include rear-wheel drive, or 4WDemand part-time 4WD. When properly equipped, the 2015 Tacoma is capable of hauling up to 6,500 pounds.

2015 Toyota Tacoma Efficiency

Trucks aren’t known for their efficiency, but then again, you typically don’t buy a truck because of its great gas mileage. The 2015 Tundra’s mpg ratings fall about exactly where you’d expect for a smaller pickup: 21/25 mpg city/highway for the four-cylinder engine mated to the five-speed manual transmission; 19/24 mpg city/highway for the four-cylinder with the four-speed automatic; 18/21 for the V6 combined with the five-speed manual; and 17/21 mpg city/highway for the V6 paired with the five-speed automatic. All in all, not too shabby for a pickup truck.

With the elimination of the three-seat regular cab model, this year’s Tacoma is roomy no matter which model you choose. The Access Cab offers four seats, while the Double Cab offers five. Every 2015 Tacoma model comes with a tilt and telescopic steering wheel, and Entune infotainment (including four speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, USB port, iPod integration, and a 6.1-inch touchscreen display). Choosing one of the upper trim levels will get you features like a leather interior, heated front seats, a seven-speaker stereo system, HD Radio, navigation, and a backup camera.
