At long last, Cadillac has unveiled the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe and Sedan variants at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The 2016 ATS-V marks the first time that the luxury brand has brought twin-turbocharged performance to the V-Series line, which was introduced in 2004.

“Cadillac’s V-Series is the best example of Cadillac’s emerging product substance – and the purest expression of the passion at the core of the brand,” remarked Johan de Nysschen, the newly appointed president of Caddy.

Under the hood of the ATS-V models is the Twin Turbo 3.6-liter V6, good for 455 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. This powerhouse rockets the ATS-V from 0 to 60 in just 3.9 seconds, maxing out at a top speed of 185 mph. Other performance-driven features include a Brembo high-performance brake system, driver-selectable driving modes (sport, touring, and track), integrated chassis controls, Magnetic Ride Control, and tri-compound tires. Structural stiffness has been increased by 25%, and drivers can opt for the available downforce-generating track aerodynamics package. The ATS-V sits on Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires that were developed exclusively for the ATS-V models.

And, like we assumed, the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V has picked up the Stingray’s Performance Data Recorder.

The exterior has been designed for optimal drivetrain cooling and aerodynamic performance—everything from fascias to the hood to the spoiler to the fenders has been enhanced. But Cadillac also remembered to touch up the interior, with 16-way-adjustable RECARO performance front seats, as well as an ergonomically designed cabin that focuses on features necessary for on-track performance driving.

“All of the design elements have a purpose,” said Andrew Smith, executive director, Cadillac Global Design. “They contribute to lift reduction, enhanced cooling, reduced mass or all of the above.”

Smith added, “With the performance the new ATS-V is capable of delivering, the interior needs to be as functional as the other vehicles systems. All of the contact points – the steering wheel, seats, shifter and pedals – are designed to make performance driving experiences direct and intuitive.”

“As the smallest and lightest V-Series ever, the ATS-V forges a great connection with the driver, with exceptional nimbleness and responsiveness,” said David Leone, Cadillac Executive Chief Engineer, in summary. “It’s adaptable to the driver’s preferences, with every selectable mode developed to deliver the best performance for all types of driving scenarios, including the track.”

The 2016 Cadillac ATS-V models will hit the market next spring.
