2016 Chevy Camaro Will Have “Evolutionary” Design Updates

Those looking for a drastic overhaul from the 2016 Chevy Camaro to match the complete redesign of its rival Mustang will be sorely disappointed, says Edmunds. Of course, it’s incredibly difficult to be “sorely disappointed” when it comes to the Camaro, which is why so much about the next-gen model will share so much in common with its current model year brethren.
According to an industry source, the changes applied to the 2016 Chevy Camaro will be more “evolutionary” than revolutionary, meaning that they will suggest a natural progression from generation to generation without throwing out any babies in the bathwater.
“The difference between the existing and redesigned (Camaro) is not drastically different,” sources told Edmunds. “It looks like a worked-over current-model Camaro. It is on a different platform, so that is a significant difference, but when they modified it to be on a different platform, the styling did not change that much.”
That new platform will be the very same rear-wheel-drive template used in the Cadillac ATS and CTS, meaning that the GM Zeta platform is likely on its last leg. The 2016 Chevy Camaro will be re-engineered beneath a tinkered-with-but-not-reinvented body, meaning that there will be plenty of newness to share when the Camaro makes its likely world premiere at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.
Given that Camaro outsold the Mustang by more than 3,000 models in 2013 and Ford is expected to top the Camaro in 2014 due to the nostalgia of the badge’s 50th anniversary and the redesigned 2015 model, it’s entirely likely that the 2016 Chevy Camaro and Ford Mustang will be trading punches in 2015 to see who gets best two out of three.
