2016 Chevy Volt Finalist for Autoblog Tech Car of the Year
The 2016 Chevy Volt still hasn’t gone on sale, but it has already earned plaudits from automotive critics for its better range and more conventional styling. Both of those improvements no doubt helped the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle earn a nomination for Autoblog’s 2016 Tech Car of the Year award.
The Volt’s two competitors for the title are the 2016 BMW 7 Series and the 2016 Tesla Model S, putting the PHEV in good (and pricey) company.
This is the first year that Autoblog has chosen to divide its award into two components: one for Tech Car of the Year, and one for general Technology. Chevrolet is also a finalist for Technology of the Year Award, thanks to the bowtie brand’s Apple Carplay, which enables iPhone users to connect their smartphone to their vehicle and access apps using the car’s touchscreen display.
Chevy has integrated Apple Carplay across its entire 2016 lineup, including the new Volt. Chevrolet is also making Android Auto available on its models, although it was Hyundai that first brought the technology to the market, and which Autoblog recognized with a Tech of the Year nomination.
Chevy will have to wait until next year to find out if it’s taking home any trophies, as the winners will be announced on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. General Motors is no doubt hoping to have a home field advantage over Tesla and BMW when the winners are revealed in Motor City.
