Last month, Ford stole our breaths completely by premiering the hotly-anticipated 2016 Focus RS at a special event in Cologne, Germany. A month later, it makes its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show, where we get just a bit more information on what this beast will be able to do.

“The all-new Focus RS is a serious machine with high-performance technology and innovative engineering that sets new benchmarks for driving exhilaration on the road and track,” said Raj Nair, Ford Motor Company group vice president, Global Product Development.

We’re still being fed the line that the Focus RS’ 2.3-liter EcoBoost will deliver “in excess of 315 horsepower,” but we don’t have a specific number as of yet. Will it be 318 horsepower? 321 horsepower? We’ll have to wait and see.

We also heard much of the same information about Ford Performance All-Wheel Drive with Dynamic Torque Vectoring. It still sounds awesome, and it still sounds like it’s going to make the Focus RS the new hot car for track enthusiasts.

The biggest bit of news relates to the vehicle’s selectable drive modes. In all, there will be four: normal, sport, track, and drift mode.

Drift mode. Ooh.

According to Ford, “drift mode features specially developed calibration for all-wheel drive that modifies torque distribution to help the driver achieve controlled oversteer drifts under circuit conditions.”

We like the sound of this.
