2016 Ford Explorer Configurator

We’ve only just gotten our first look at the 2016 Explorer, and the configurator has already sprung up for our perusal.

It’s like Christmas in…well, the first week of December. Come to think of it, Christmas is like a four-month-long thing these days, so the “it’s like Christmas” analogy is pretty well diluted by this point.

In any case, it’s the 2016 Ford Explorer configurator, it’s here, and it’s neat.

The biggest takeaway may well be pricing for all five 2016 Explorer models: the base model starts at $30,700; the XLT starts at $33,400; the Limited starts at $41,300; the Sport starts at $43,300; and the Platinum starts at $52,600.

This means that you’ll pay the same starting MSRP for a base 2016 Explorer that you would for the 2015 model, which is good. The XLT and Sport are only getting price bumps of $400 and $200, respectfully, which is also good. The $2,900 increase for the Limited model, on the other hand, is not what we’d call marginal, though it’s likely getting bumped so much to accommodate for the voice-activated navigation system.

The 2016 Ford Explorer configurator lets you do all the kinds of things you’d expect from a configurator: pick your colors, pick your exterior flair, pick your interior touches, get a big whopping final price, and then sign up to figure out when you can buy one.

Including the $895 destination charge, a topped-out 2016 Explorer Platinum 4WD will run around $57,350. That’s a nice little chunk of change, but the result is an SUV that’s luxury-brand-quality.
